Tyra Banks talks GOOD HAIR!

This is a Tyra show that I cannot WAIT to see! Tyra Banks explores the topic of Good Hair in the African American community. Good Hair is usually the term used to describe hair that is not kinky or tightly coiled in texture and also described as hair that "you can get a comb through". Her guests include a mother who perms her 3-year old daughters hair.

I am very interested in this topic and more interested in what Tyra has to say about it since she wears weaves most of the time. Please note: I am certainly not opposed to weaves. Weaves are GREAT for protective styling, if done right, but some women wear weaves to conceal the hair they have underneath instead of using it as a protective style (we'll explore protective styles in a later post this week). I am sure Tyra uses weaves as a protective styling option as many celebs do because she is constantly getting her hair done and that can actually damage the natural hair. However, I cannot help but notice that you rarely if not EVER see her or any other weave rockin' celebs rocking their natural hair. Her commentary on this topic should be interesting, nonetheless.

Anyway, the show airs May 12, 2009. Check this link for more info!

so many hair forums have been talking about this epsiode and i just hope someone can upload for me to watch coz i live in th UK and they got rid of Tyra Show, some of them have even said tyra shouldn't be talking about it because she wears wig/ weave but what if she is wearing it as a protective style like oprah used to do and look how long her real hair is lol oh and some people on one site said isn't funny that she has cornrows on in this paticular episode

Well, I watched the show this afternoon and was completely left emotionally drained. As a woman who went natural recently, I was hoping that Tyra would have more representations of women with various "TYPES" of hair and by that I don't mean this bogus "good vs. bad" hair thing....but more like TYPE 4a, TYPE 2 hair analysis....so many woman, especially "sistas" don't even know in regards to the strand what the type their hair is....there is a big difference....

No instead, Tyra had crazy mothers with their own agendas on the show...like the stupid lady with the braids who wanted to have a mixed baby because she was teased as a child.....someone should've thrown her a jar of self-esteem because that was low....

Or the mother who "permed" her daughter's hair eventhough the daughter said that she didn't like it and cried....and when her sister got up to say it was silly the mother told her very own sister to "mind her business"...

OR...what about the white mother who put weave in her daughter's hair to make her look more black and her little girl (8 yrs. old) said that SHE DIDN'T LIKE WEARING WEAVE......

I was like COME ON TYRA......

That show was a white wash.....no pun intended.....

Tyra should've hit up those ladies over at the LONG HAIR CARE FORUM to show that BLACK WOMEN (Israelites) have UNIQUE hair especially designed by the creator of the universe and it can grow longer than repunzel but not if we don't know HOW TO TAKE CARE OF IT....and the perms/relaxers ain't cutting it.....

so to all the low self esteem women out there who are subjecting their children to their own insecurities, I have this to say...."WILLIE LYNCH"....

google him and you'll see why this "generational curse" when it comes to good/bad hair and light/dark skin still persists today.....

Ps...if Tyra was so proud of her roots she wouldn't only show her cornrows when doing a show about black women and hair (this is not the first time I noticed that)....she needs to ditch the lacefronts and learn what a bantu knot is too.....our hair is TOO VERSITLE and our people too precious to let this delusion continue any longer.....

The tribe of Judah, you need to stand up and read your bibles, your history is right there! Stop being ashamed of who you are and whose you are....you are children of the Most High.....

Think

@ "Anonymous" I agree with you 100 percent. Thank you so much for posting your comment. I was very disapointed in the show. I felt Tyra handled the topic poorly and was in way over her head. And what was the point? The only thing it did for me was make her look self righteous and ignorant. I wrote a little about my feelings on the show yesterday on my site squarerootz.net.

Not a fan!

Shame on Tyra Banks. Why does she want to look white?

All black women I know in person, and I know a whole lot, hate their hair. Its a disgrace to them. Mind you I too used to feel this way. Till God opened my blind eyes to how gorgeous my natural hair was. I just did not know how to care for it or maintain it. I was never taught to.

The other thing is weaves stink. Yep they smell bad, braids too. People keep spraying oils and oils on that stuff. They dont wash it, then it stinks. I have heard men complian that their womens hair stink. Its bad enough when your own husband can not even feel your own scalp, but to let the poor guy endure the smell is just unfair.

Many men who have black wives prefer them natural.

Having said that as a Christian I believe the greatest sin is not pretending to be white or something you are not, (AKA as wearing a long straight weave). The greatest sin is unbelief in Christ, and it manifest itself in many terrible things, including hating the way God made you. I wish someone would tell that to Tyra Banks.
